History

The Wing Walker Pershing Rifle Team has a long and distinguished history. Detachment records indicate that the honor guard has existed since the 1950's, when Colorado State University was still known as Colorado A&M. During that time, the honor guard was known as Sabre Air Command. The original SAC guidon still hangs in the cadet lounge to this day, reminding all current and future Wing Walkers of the traditions and history of our team. As the years passed, the name of the honor guard changed to the Wing Walker Drill Team (1981-1998), the Wing Walker Honor Guard (1998-2005), and its most recent form, the Wing Walker Pershing Rifle Team (2005-present). The Pershing Rifles are a national organization of honor guards and drill teams, more information and a brief history of the organization can be viewed at http://nhq.pershingrifles.com.
